Unfortunately, the code used to achieve this turned out to be easily repurposed for cryptojacking attacks, contributing to Coinhive’s eventual shutdown in 2018. These attacks are known as ‘drive-by’ cryptojacking and can persist long after a victim leaves the infected page.
